Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) Investor & Treasury Services (I&TS) has appointed Chris Barrand as its new director of securities finance, based in London.

Barrand takes on his new role after serving for four years as an associate director for the bank’s securities finance desk.

Barrand started at RBC as a securities lending trader in 2008, before becoming an associate within securities finance in 2012, and then an associate director and then director.

Before the Canadian bank, Barrand held securities lending-related positions with Swiss investment bank UBS between 2005 and 2008.

RBC's securities finance division is headed by Donato D'Eramo, based in Toronto.

D'Eramo also leads the Canadian Íø±¬³Ô¹Ï Lending Association.

Barrand's promotion comes shortly after RBC I&TS link text for over-the-counter derivatives and repos in order to help asset managers comply with the Uncleared Margin Rules.

The new platform, which leverages technology provided by CloudMargin via IHS Markit, aims to offer the centralisation of standing settlement instructions and credit support annex contracts.
