The International Íø±¬³Ô¹Ï Lending Association (ISLA) has cancelled its ISLA Americas Íø±¬³Ô¹Ï Finance Conference due to the impact of Hurricane Milton.
Naples, Florida, where the conference was to take place on 14-17 October, remains without power and under a no-driving curfew.
Fran Garritt, executive director at ISLA Americas, says: “The hotel will remain closed until further notice, and they have informed us that they will be unable to host the conference. Therefore, regrettably, the conference will not proceed next week.â€
The BBC has reported 16 people dead after the hurricane passed through Florida on 9-10 October, but the total number could rise as rescue workers make their way through floodwaters and debris.
Garritt adds: “Our thoughts are with those across Florida affected by the impact of the hurricane.â€
The event next week was to be ISLA Americas’ first October conference since the new entity was announced in March this year.
The association worked closely with the Risk Management Association’s (RMA) Íø±¬³Ô¹Ï Lending Council members to form the non-profit industry association.
The conference was to build on the RMA's legacy by broadening its reach both geographically and institutionally.
It was to serve as a platform where participants across the full securities finance value chain could share ideas, engage in thought leadership, and promote the industry.
