SIX has selected Juan Flames as head of BME Exhanges and CEO of BME to represent the SIX business in the Spanish market, effective on 15 November.

Bolsas y Mercados Españoles (BME), acquired by SIX in 2020, operates all stock markets and financial systems in Spain.

In his new role, Flames will represent the SIX business in the Spanish market, reporting to Bjørn Sibbern, global head of exchanges and member of the SIX executive board.

Flames succeeds Javier Hernani, who will focus on the business unit Íø±¬³Ô¹Ï Services as a member of the SIX executive board, remaining on the BME board of directors.

Flames joins from Barclays Bank Europe in Madrid where he currently serves as vice chairman of capital markets, managing interest rate and foreign exchange derivatives for corporate and public sector clients.

Prior to that, he held various positions at the bank in capital markets and investment banking, both in the UK and Spain.

Previously, he spent more than a decade at Goldman Sachs in London.

Jos Dijsselhof, chairman of BME and CEO of SIX, comments: “[Flames] brings extensive experience and knowledge of the securities markets in Spain, along with an international market profile that will support the growth and efforts we have been implementing since 2020.

“I would also like to thank Javier Hernani for his outstanding leadership at BME and look forward to continuing our collaboration.â€
