Jeffrey Sutton becomes CFTC executive director

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has appointed Jeffrey Sutton as its executive director.
Replacing acting executive director Janaka Perera, Sutton joined the Commission earlier this month, having previously been chief financial officer at the Drug Enforcement Agency.
CFTC indicates that Sutton will direct key programmes with the Commission’s Division of Administration that are essential to its administration and management, which includes human capital, IT, financial management, administrative services and business operations, information and physical security and enterprise risk management.
Previously, Sutton has worked for eight years at the US Department of Justice, where he held a number of roles on the Justice Management Division’s budget team. He has also been a programme examiner at the US Office of Management and Budget and a research analyst at the Smithsonian Institute.
Commenting on his appointment, Jeffrey Sutton says: “The CFTC is an amazing agency and I am excited about the opportunity to make administrative operations as effective and efficient as possible to help the agency to fulfil its important mission.â€
CFTC chair Rostin Benham comments: “With his career in government service spanning more than 20 years, Jeff brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in core areas of agency management to the CFTC as well as a strong commitment to public service.
“As a key member of our leadership team, Jeff will be a strategic partner in providing advice and direction in enhancing and optimising the design and execution of the CFTC programmes and operations that support our workforce and ensure that we maintain excellence in pursuit of our mission and strategies.â€
