Christopher R. Kunkle was recently appointed director, Íø±¬³Ô¹Ï Lending and Market Risk, by The Risk Management Association. Kunkle will coordinate the activities of RMA's Íø±¬³Ô¹Ï Lending Committee and also will oversee RMA's market risk program and events. He replaces Curtis Knight, who is retiring. Knight had held that position since 1995.
RMA's Íø±¬³Ô¹Ï Lending practice provides products and services to RMA member institutions involved in agent lending functions within the securities lending industry. The Market Risk practice provides products and services to member institutions engaged in trading, counterparty, and asset/liability risk management. Activities for both practices include several roundtable peer-sharing events, global conferences, and industry training programs sponsored and developed by the RMA Committee on Íø±¬³Ô¹Ï Lending and the RMA Market Risk Council.
The committee and council are composed of individuals from member institutions who serve two-year terms. Both groups maintain an active dialogue with other associations and regulatory bodies on issues, laws, and industry best practices.
A former member of RMA's Íø±¬³Ô¹Ï Lending Executive Committee, Kunkle has represented the securities lending industry with the Internal Revenue Service, the U.S. Treasury Department, the Íø±¬³Ô¹Ï and Exchange Commission, and other regulatory agencies in the U.S. and with Inland Revenue in the United Kingdom.
He has been published and quoted in several industry periodicals, including Pensions & Investments, Global Custodian, and International Íø±¬³Ô¹Ï Finance. He has also served on the board of the U.S. Board of Equilend LLC.
Before joining RMA, Kunkle was managing director and senior vice president, Wachovia Global Íø±¬³Ô¹Ï Lending Group, where he had responsibility for overall client management in the Western Hemisphere and Europe. He was a member of the firm's executive committee.
